The price made this seem way too good to be true, especially for the size of this blanket. Ordered the queen and it hangs down past the box spring on both sides, which is great, as it will work on a king bed too. The herringbone pattern is very pretty, but the fact that it is 100% Merino wool for the price is really unbelievable. The packaging arrived without any indication of what was inside (see photos) which was unnerving and would make for an awkward gift, but the tag does say 100% wool. We have a ton of merino wool clothing, and it does indeed act, look & feel just like other merino wool. It is not super fine Merino wool (a bit softer, smaller threads) but as a top blanket, it is still amazing for the price. It seems to be standard thread merino wool. As expected, this blanket breathes! No more trapped heat that happens with synthetic materials that make you sweat when they get too hot. The satin edging is a nice touch. Merino wool is not near as scratchy or itchy as other wools. This blanket is just what we were looking for. Other reviews complain about a smell, it has a slight odor, rather expected from the material & size of it. Other reviews complain about how it washed - and while it has washing instructions, a top loader would tear up any wool, and even a wool cycle would be asking for trouble. The tag should read hand wash or wool cycle only. Washing (most) wool will felt, pill & ruin it. Rubbing/agitation causes felting & pilling to any wool item. We hand wash wool in the bathtub with wool soap with lanolin (this will also help soften up the wool even more), gently squeeze dry, and roll between towels to absorb excess moisture. MAYBE spin on delicate/wool cycle to help dry. This blanket will be cumbersome to hand wash but doable. With proper wool care, this blanket is just what it should be - Amazing warmth & value without overheating, plus it’s eco friendly as it’s natural sheep wool (aside from the trim.). The satin trim is more brown grey (see photos) than pure grey, but it still looks nice & complements the herringbone pattern.Edit: So I took a venture to “wash” this lovely blanket and first let me say how much more I love it now. It now smells amazing and is so much softer!I added a large quantity of wool wash with lanolin(!) to cold water in a clean tub and mixed it all well, filling the tub a good 6” inches before adding the blanket. I got it all under the water, let it soak overnight and came back to push it around in gentle swishes, picking up small bundles of it, plopping it back down, causing gentle agitation (careful never to pull on just one spot, stretch or tear it.) After I was satisfied with enough water movement without roughing up the blanket itself, I opened the drain I pushed it to the other end. Came back to rinse (shower sprayer cool water) and let drain again, gently squishing out any water. I did not attempt to remove the blanket at this point, until it had drained in the corner of the tub a full day. Using big absorbant towels, blotting the blanket with one towel and the laundry basket lined with two more. The first wet towel I used to wrap up and haul the now semi-wet blanket out of the tub into the lined laundry basket removing the first towel as I rolled it into the basket, letting the other two soak any moisture up. After again blotting (not rubbing) as much water out as I could, I laid it out to dry on a clean bed with the fan on high. It was dry the next day. Softer & smelling like my favorite wool wash!
