The drawers are completely separate, so IF you wanted the bed without them, you just pull them out and ta-da gorgeous twin bed. It was pretty easy to put together and looks like it will last a very long time. It is actually made of wood not particle board or whatever so that is a HUGE quality factor for me. It looks awesome and my daughter loves it. I wish that the drawers had some sort of separator as they are Massive, but if it was really that big of a deal I could easily make my own. The drawers could easily hold spare blankets/comforters or tons of stuffed animals. We use them as a dresser and put some small cubes in to separate the drawer out a bit. This bed frame was exactly what we were looking for for her and she loves it too. I couldn't be more pleased.
